design challenge: to create a true, Southern front porch that had the look and feel of Charleston and classic design details that would complement the existing home and stand the test of time; to visually and functionally extend first floor living space out to a deeper front porch for increased flow when entertaining and allow greater freedom in everyday living; to change the configuration of the existing staircase, while allowing the retaining wall and septic lines to remain in place.
design solution: The existing first floor windows were converted to out-swinging french doors within the existing openings, so as to not sacrifice interior wall space; porch size was doubled; all building materials and design details were purposefully chosen to accomplish the look the client was desiring to achieve; an all-brick, curved staircase leads you up to the expanded outdoor living area; details include tongue and groove ceiling and flooring, and handcrafted box columns. The integrity of the overall design is completed with brick support columns and hand-build lattice.
"We are very appreciative of the quality of workmanship, attention to detail and overall professionalism that we received from NCC during the recent construction of our 'Charleston Style' front porch. Your seamless coordination with the architect and our designer proved to be invaluable when it came to integrating the essential details to achieve the desired appearance. It was truly exciting to actually see what was on the drawings come to life with the finished project.
Thank you for a professional job."
